DGI can create SGML, XML, and HTML files to produce reusable, Internet-ready content. We specialize in the conversion of content with foreign languages, scientific text, and e-commerce-specific data such as catalogs and e-books. Our highly skilled staff provides customized conversion and quality-control tools using Java, XSLT, VBA, and scripting languages. We also convert books into interactive, hyperlinked, hybrid Windows/Mac OS CDs.

Integrated Print/Electronic Workflow Solutions

DGI utilizes a customized Adobe InDesign® application to accept XML content using its built-in support for XML and DTDs. With this customized approach, publishers can accomplish successful "round-tripping" between XML and InDesign®. We are an InDesign® Plug-In developer and can further tailor workflows to your needs.

We also utilize QuarkXPress® workflows to transform manuscript files into XML using semi-automated processes. Composition files are then manually fine-tuned within QuarkXPress®, so that published files can be transformed back into XML to allow corrections.

Multilingual Capability

DGI can process content with both common and scientific text in multiple languages, including British and American English, French, German, Italian, Dutch, Spanish, Arabic, Russian, ancient and modern Greek and Hebrew, as well as transliterations and phonetics. We have extensive experience in handling multilingual sources while maintaining high data accuracy.

Composition and Editorial Services

DGI has 20 years of experience in composition and editorial services, and has processed millions of pages for prominent publishers in Europe and the United States. Our processes include options for an XML workflow to enable high data integrity when working with different page composition tools. We utilize systems that allow continuous editing and updating of content while layout is ongoing.

We have the technology and skill to handle data-driven content and database publishing for catalogs, directories, and manuals, as well as the creation of indexes.

We produce our own travel guides and infomaps, and are highly familiar with the publishing cycle. As such, we can provide editorial services such as copywriting, content editing, copyediting, and research.

EPUB and EBOOK Creation

DGI delivers electronic book formats, such as ePub and PDF eBook, which are feature-rich and highly compatible with the latest eBook viewing devices.

DGI’s technology goes beyond simple conversion routines. We deliver ePubs that integrate videos, music, and stored variables, enabling users to listen to a music extract or sound file, answer a multiple choice question within the ePub, store his/her answers, reopen the ePub on another day, get an interactive score, and more.

PDF Ebook

We have years of experience with PDF eBook workflows that include setting up security and encryption with Digital Rights Management (DRM), bookmarks, hyperlinks, and interactivity. Our eBook outputs are compact and maintain the layout of text, tables, and images across multiple viewing software and devices.

PDF, a widely used eBook format, allows font embedding to preserve the original look of the book. It has a high level of security (using 128-bit AES encryption) which has been used by the US Federal Government since 2002.

ePub

We are also an established ePub workflow service provider. Our ePub outputs are lightweight and the structured contents are easy to maintain for future editions.

The ePub format is a free and open eBook standard suitable for published books. It allows for reflowable content that is adaptable to viewing devices with different screen sizes. Styling and layout are easily controlled and modified through stylesheets included in the ePub package. It also contains metadata, which makes an eBook easy to find just by searching its topic, author or title.

Our robust testing ensures support for our ePub and PDF eBook outputs on the iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch, using a variety of eReader software packages. We are an Apple iPhone registered developer.

Cellphone EBook Applications

We have created eBooks that run on an iPhone or Blackberry, as stand-alone, interactive applications using SQLLite or JavaScript, making the best use of the touch-screen interface for scrolling tables, interactive pictures and maps, sorting functions, etc.
